About Hill Hounds

Hill Hounds is a small, volunteer-run 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Washington, DC. The group first organized in 2004 to push for a change in DC law to allow for the creation of official dog parks within the city.

In the fall of 2007, DC law was amended and money was allocated by the city for the construction of neighborhood dog parks. Hill Hounds then began the process of submitting an application to the city for a dog park in an unused asphalt area adjacent to Kingsman Field, between 13th, 14th D & E NE in Capitol Hill.

In April of 2008, Hill Hounds submitted an application to the DC Department of Parks and Recreation, including petition signatures in support of a dog park at Kingsman Field from more than one thousand residents of Ward 6. In August of 2008, DPR approved Hill Hounds’ application. Hill Hounds worked with DPR on the design of the park and raised $20,000 to fund park amenities and maintenance. On March 25, 2011, the park opened to the public!
